The damn body has the nerve to get used to what you're doing and adjust accordingly. I'm lucky that I am still losing weight - 20lbs so far - but I know that day is coming. Here's a thought though, and this is what I've done in the past and I feel coming upon me if I'm not careful - complacency. Real food, as you seem to have discovered, doesn't make you fat because it keeps you satisfied. Great work on all your research. But I'm just being negative Nancy today.
I had to teach my cousing about eating for having "borderline" diabetes today. My Dad sat in because he was diagnosed with diabetes a few years ago but chooses to think that as long as he takes his pills he'll be fine. My cousin was so appreciative and it really made me feel good that I was able to help him. My Dad however, was still being a downer. As part of our meal which followed our discussion, there was a side of potatoes. My Dad says, "We sure are having a lot of potatoes after your 'no starch' talk." This just made we want to scream because that exactly what I did NOT say. Mashed potatoes are fine as long as you watch the portions, I reminded him. And he gave me a snotty reply, "Well I must have misunderstood."
I guess the point of my story is that if you take on a challenge in life, just take it on full strength and don't dwell and have self-pity over the things you feel like you're giving up. Being negative and having a "poor me" attitude is not the way to go to be successful in anything.hollyjulianahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02343810886653427464noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-571865908369753594.post-80925967155097798502009-03-27T22:45:00.000-05:002009-03-27T22:45:00.000-05:00I posted pictures for you, Sarah, so you can visua...I posted pictures for you, Sarah, so you can visually indulge :-)Clairehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06337035425779730044noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-571865908369753594.post-67311950589456935072009-03-27T10:35:00.000-05:002009-03-27T10:35:00.000-05:00Mmmmmm, I love cauliflower soup. When you have much more fat than you're used to having, some people just can't tolerate the switch. Bile emulsifies fat to aid fat digestion, and the gallbladder is the store house for bile. So when you take in much more fat than usual, bile production has to go into overdrive. Many people are admitted with inflammed gallbladder (cholecystitis, for the terminology nerds) that is caused by eating very high fat foods. It's kinda crazy, but it's the body's way of saying "Oh no you didn't!"
I'm glad you're feeling better now. As far as my prior advice about occasional weekend splurges being acceptable as long as you compensate for it... just ignore that. In you're specific case, you're tummy is a bit sensitive to handle several days of that stuff. A meal or snack sure, but just be careful.
Doesn't the ER suck without health insurance too? I admit that I am very skeptical about foods "balancing" your mind/body/spirit. Not to say that food isn't influential, but I just don't know if I'd take it that far. Now the simplified version that Miss B talks about is reasonable, and honestly, sounds a lot like most dietitians say, "all things in moderation."
Looking into other diet ideas isn't necessarily a bad thing either. Although I'm not a fan of "diets" in general, some of these books can give you ideas on how to incorporate new ingredients into your meals and keep thing from getting too dull. I refuse to buy into any plan that bans any food item. It's just un-American ;)hollyjulianahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02343810886653427464noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-571865908369753594.post-35414158235116635172009-03-24T17:47:00.000-05:002009-03-24T17:47:00.000-05:00ah Miss B, these things happen, and you're respond...ah Miss B, these things happen, and you're responding exactly as you should. It's not the end of the world to have a bad day (or weekend), but it's how you react that's the important part. Ordering a pizza or whatever every once in a while is part of life, and you can't eat like a saint all the time. As I've said before, it is all about balancing it out. OK, you had a not so great weekend, but now you're on track and all will be well. :)hollyjulianahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02343810886653427464noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-571865908369753594.post-31692837424829521372009-03-17T21:57:00.000-05:002009-03-17T21:57:00.000-05:00I'm currently into "green hummus". My grandma has this habit of trying to tell smokers that they should quit. She badgers them every time she sees them and it really just generally drives them crazy and makes them want to smoke more. What is it about human nature that makes us act like that?

It's the same for eating though. I think sometimes that the more someone (like a dietitian, media, government) tells you what you should be eating, the more you want to go out and get a cheeseburger and a milkshake! Just like every smoker knows it's bad to smoke, those who eat mostly brownies and burgers know it's bad too.

This is aggravating from both sides of the table, but I think that people won't do anything about eating more healthily until they themselves want to do it. At least that's the way it was with me. I had to see enough unflattering pictures of myself, feel enough tight waistbands in the dressing rooms, and see the numbers climb high enough on the scales. Only then did I decide that tipping 200 pounds wasn't the best idea if I want to live to a ripe old age.

I suppose it's good to call attention to the issue, but you're right - do people really care?Clairehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06337035425779730044noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-571865908369753594.post-67024681738938136512009-03-16T09:34:00.000-05:002009-03-16T09:34:00.000-05:00Oh my god, vegan menu is total food porn!Oh my god, vegan menu is total food porn!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-571865908369753594.post-46458525818808975532009-03-10T21:31:00.000-05:002009-03-10T21:31:00.000-05:00Yeah, Sunday was exhausting!
